BEIHAI
This project takes Beihai Park in Beijing as a specific observation field to reexamine the dialectical relationship among human beings, object environments, and materials by threading its geological construction changes.
In history, human beings mostly play the role of reconstructing the object environment and often overridden it to become the dominant power. Beihai Park is a typical field reflecting this relationship, for witnessing many dynasty changes in China. It has been transformed in various materials for different field usage and endowed with the significance of each era. However, the old meanings given by the predecessor are often pulled away with the abandonment of gardens when history changes, and then the new ones are given with the reconstruction. In this case, how to define “foreign”? Therefore, I use the way of reshaping the material symbols of Beihai Park to appeal to the public to change their single view of the position of human beings. The project is presented in the form of an exhibition.
